Patella Dislocation

A patella dislocation is a common injury in which the kneecap, or patella, moves out of its normal position within the knee joint. The dislocation usually occurs due to a strong impact, fall, bad step, or sudden twist and turn. Patients with a patella dislocation may experience intense pain, swelling, and the inability to walk. Patella dislocations can vary in severity and require proper diagnosis and treatment.

Meniscus Tears

A torn meniscus is a common injury in which the cartilage that cushions and stabilizes the knee joint is damaged. A meniscus tear can happen while engaging in sports activities like running, twisting, rapid pivoting, or gradually over time as a result of normal “wear and tear”. Patients with a torn meniscus will primarily experience pain in the knee, especially when engaging in physical activity.

Meniscus tears can vary in severity and require proper diagnosis and treatment. Our Board Certified Sports Medicine experts are dedicated to diagnosing your injury, and providing the best customized treatment option for even the most severe of cases. Our multispecialty diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation programs will treat your injuries and help you return to the highest level of performance.

Ligament and Tendon Injuries

Ligaments are bands of tissue that connect bones to each other, providing strength and stability. They are often torn or stretched as a result of sudden twisting motions like in sports. The symptoms of a ligament injury include pain, swelling, popping sounds, and weakness.

Tendons are cords of tissue that connect your muscles to your bones. They are very susceptible to injury and are often strained due to their connection to the muscles. The symptoms of a tendon injury often includes sudden joint or muscle pain that worsens, and the inability to move.

DHR Health Sports Medicine experts are here to provide you with an accurate diagnosis and care, even for the most severe ligament and tendon injuries. Our multispecialty diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation programs help you return to the highest level of performance and active lifestyle.

Knee Pain

The knee is a complex joint that is highly susceptible to injury. It is composed of four bones: the femur, tibia, fibula, and the patella or kneecap. These four bones are supported by ligaments and tendons that allow the knee to bend and straighten. Knee pain can result from numerous injuries, including ligament tears, tendonitis, dislocations, arthritis, and more.

DHR Health Sports Medicine specialists are dedicated to diagnosing your pain and providing the best care for even the most complex knee injuries. Our multispecialty diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation programs will treat your knee pain and help you return to the highest level of performance.

Slap Tears

SLAP tears, also known as labrum tears, are common injuries caused by injury or overuse. A SLAP tear happens when cartilage in the inner part of the shoulder joint is torn. They tend to occur while engaging in sports or physical activity that requires constant overhead motion, like in swimming, softball, or weight lifting.

Patients may experience persistent shoulder pain, constant popping, or deep pain when doing certain movements. If left untreated, labrum tears can worsen and lead to serious complications.

Nonsurgical Treatments:
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Cortisone shots
  • Physical therapy
Surgical Treatments:
  • Debridement surgery
  • Arthroscopic labral surgery
  • Bicep tenodesis surgery

Rotator Cuff Injury

The rotator cuff is comprised of tendons and muscles that surround the shoulder joint, ensuring the arm’s stability. A rotator cuff injury occurs when one of the tendons tears and detaches from the joint’s bone. Rotator cuff injuries tend to be caused by sudden traumatic events or through repetitive overhead movements, as seen in sports such as baseball, tennis, and swimming. Patients with rotator cuff injuries may experience intense pain when moving their arm, disrupted sleeping, and weakness.

DHR Health Sports Medicine specialists are committed to diagnosing the severity of your injury and delivering the best comprehensive care. Our multispecialty diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation programs will treat your condition and help you return to the highest level of performance.

Achilles Tendon Rupture

The Achilles tendon is a thick band of tissue that attaches the calf muscle to the heel bone. An Achilles tendon rupture occurs when sudden movement puts stress on the tendon leading it to rupture. This tends to happen during sports with sudden stops and pivots such as soccer, football, and basketball. Patients with Achilles tendon ruptures tend to experience sharp sudden pain, pain when walking, swelling, and bruising.

Achilles tendon ruptures are traumatic injuries that require immediate medical attention.

UCL injuries can vary in severity and may require UCL reconstruction surgery, such as the Tommy John surgery, in order to return to play. Our Board Certified Sports Medicine experts are dedicated to diagnosing your injury and providing the best treatment option. Our multispecialty diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation programs will treat your injuries and help you return to the highest level of performance as soon as possible.

Golfer’s elbow, known as medial epicondylitis, is a form of tendonitis that causes pain and inflammation in the tendons that connect the forearm and elbow. Golfer’s elbow tends to happen as a result of repeated arm and wrist bending, and grasping or twisting of things. A patient with golfer’s elbow may experience aching pain, decreased grip strength, and hand tingling or numbness.

Tennis elbow is a strain injury that causes pain and inflammation in the elbow. Like golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow happens as a result of repetitive motions like swinging or twisting of the lower arm. Patients with tennis elbow may experience exterior elbow pain, stiffness, swelling, and weakened grip.
