Welcome to DHR Health! We appreciate you learning more about our residency and fellowship programs and invite you to visit our campus where the dedication, commitment and enthusiasm for medical education is palpable.

DHR Health is the largest physician-owned health system in the nation, and the only locally owned and operated health system in Hidalgo County. There is a wealth of volume and variety of clinical experiences offered for resident and fellow education, enhancing their knowledge of both primary care and sub-specialty medicine fields. We are fully committed to providing an evidence-based education to residents and fellows with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver excellent healthcare to patients and our community. Our faculty physicians are regionally, nationally and internationally renowned in their fields. They have been teaching residents and fellows locally since we welcomed our first residents to our campus as a primary participating site in 2015. Our large volume of imaging studies (well over 250,000 per year), a wide variety of pathology, cutting-edge technology, and dedicated faculty make this training program an exceptional educational opportunity for residents.

Family Medicine Residency

The DHR Family Medicine Residency Program educates and trains competent, compassionate, physician leaders dedicated to providing high quality, comprehensive, patient centered care. With a focus on health equity and access, we provide culturally relevant, interprofessional primary and preventive care services. Our program partners with a wide variety of healthcare professionals and clinics including behavioral health specialist, pharmacists, the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (ECISD) and HOPE Family Health Center to meet the needs of both our learners and community.

General Surgery Residency

The mission of a general surgery residency program is to train and educate physicians to become competent and skilled general surgeons who can provide high-quality patient care. Residents are exposed to the full spectrum of surgical care, provided experience with the first functional Level 1 Trauma Center in the region.

Internal Medicine Residency

DHR Health is excited to introduce the Internal Medicine Residency Program. The program and entire faculty are focused on cultivating a comprehensive training program designed to prepare physicians to deliver patient-centered primary care, emphasizing excellence in clinical skills, critical analysis, systems-based practice, and life-long learning. Our vision is to produce well-rounded residents who have a balanced experience in various clinical settings, patient diversity, and research opportunities, serving as a strong foundation from which to grow.

Bariatric Surgery Fellowship

The DHR Health Bariatric Surgery Fellowship is led by world renowned bariatric surgeons and is comprised of diverse faculty including endocrinologist, physiatrist, and pediatric surgeons. Our fellowship program aims to raise the standard of care in obesity treatment by training physicians in a comprehensive team approach which will prepare fellows to become leaders in the field of bariatric medicine.
