Biography
Dr. Rafols, originally from Isabela, Puerto Rico, is a highly regarded medical professional with over 15 years of expertise in advanced wound care. A Certified Wound Care Specialist Physician (CWSP), he completed his undergraduate studies at Purdue University, earned his medical degree from the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM), and obtained his medical diploma through the 5th Pathway Program in Ponce, Puerto Rico. After completing his Family Medicine training in 2009, he became board-certified, practiced as a hospitalist for three years, and later found his passion in wound care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).
As the founder of the first non-profit in the Rio Grande Valley addressing the amputation crisis related to Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs), Dr. Rafols is a leading advocate for prevention and early intervention. His efforts have earned recognition from Governor Greg Abbott, who declared April as Limb Loss Awareness Month, further amplifying his mission to combat limb loss.
An educator and national speaker, Dr. Rafols shares expertise on wound hygiene, biofilm management, and HBOT, empowering healthcare professionals to adopt best practices. His advocacy and collaboration with local and national leaders continue to address healthcare disparities, improve patient outcomes, and enhance access to quality wound care.
