R. Alejandro Cruz, MD

Biography

Roberto Alejandro Cruz, M.D. is board-certified in Neurology and the only fellowship trained neuro-immunologist and multiple sclerosis specialist in the region. With the addition of Dr. Cruz, the DHR Health Neurology Institute and Infusion Center will be the only facilities in the region administering the latest disease modifying therapies for multiple sclerosis and other related neurological diseases bringing an extensive range of care to the Rio Grande Valley. As part of the Neurology Institute, he will provide a wide range of treatment for disorders of the central nervous system and comprehensive medical services for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system.

Dr. Cruz earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas, Tampico, Mexico. He completed a neuro-ophthalmology clinical research fellowship at the University of Houston College of Optometry in Houston, Texas. He then attended Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he completed a neurology residency and where he was named Neurology Chief Resident. That is where he decided to attend The University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School in Austin, Texas to pursue his second fellowship in neuroimmunology and multiple sclerosis.
