Biography
Dr. Henry Ruiz was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to the USA at the age of 14. He received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine followed by his urology residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Medical Center. He then completed his fellowship training in Reconstructive Urology and Urodynamics at Duke University Medical Center. After finishing his residency, he served 12 years active duty in the US Army as a way to give back to the United States of America. He holds 2 board certifications in general urology and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
His special areas of interest include male and female reconstruction, including urinary incontinence, pelvic reconstruction, fistulae repair, urethroplasties, penile prosthesis, neuromodulation, implantable posterior tibial stimulations, Botox injections.
His current positions include Chairman, Renaissance Medical Foundation, Chairman, Department of Urology and Residency program, and Chairman of the Peer Review Committee, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. He also holds an appointment as Clinical Professor of Surgery and Urology from the University of Houston, Tillman J. Fertitta Family, College of Medicine.
Dr. Ruiz is a member of many medical organizations such as the American Urological Association, Society of Reconstruction Urologic Surgeons, Society of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Texas Medical Association, and Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society. He has built his practice to care for the medically underserved citizens of the Rio Grande Valley in an effort to deliver health equity throughout the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, which has a patient base of approximately two million people.
