Cynthia Garcia, MD
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Biography
Cynthia A. Garcia, MD, is a native South Texan. Since 1995, she has practiced in Harlingen, Texas as a Physiatrist (board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, PM&R). This little known specialty is a non-surgical field, specializing in restoring functional abilities, reducing pain, and enhancing quality of life for patients experiencing physical impairments affecting the neuro-musculoskeletal system (i.e., brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons).
Dr. Garcia considers herself a musculoskeletal (MSK) diagnostician, employing a conservative, team-oriented approach when serving her patients. Utilizing evidence-based medicine and the latest technologies, such as EMG/NCV and MSK ultrasound, Dr. Garcia is able to diagnose and treat a wide variety of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions in her office. She, however, credits a great degree of her patients’ success to open communication with numerous experts. For this reason, the DHR Health Integrated MSK Center was created.
Some of the many conditions Dr. Garcia and the DHR Health interdisciplinary MSK team are able to diagnose and treat include cervical/lumbar radiculopathies, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, spasticity, adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), lateral epicondylitis (“tennis elbow”), carpal tunnel syndrome, sacroiliac joint dysfunctions, iliotibial band syndrome, patellofemoral syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and much more.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, Dr. Garcia went on to receive a Doctor of Medicine degree from Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas. She stayed at BCM completing her first residency in internal medicine and subsequently completed a second residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
