Edinburg, Texas: As part of its continuing commitment to fulfill the healthcare needs of the Rio Grande Valley, DHR Health proudly welcomes Ivan Garcia, M.D., to its team of physicians. Dr. Garcia will take on multiple roles with the organization. Not only will Dr. Garcia treat patients as a Family Medicine Physician, but he will also contribute to the development of DHR Health’s medical residency program by working closely with aspiring physicians.
Growing up in the communities of Brownsville, Texas and Matamoros, Mexico, Dr. Garcia’s roots span the border. In continuing the legacy of his physician father and grandfather, Dr. Garcia brings with him a wealth of educational and professional experience. He is a graduate of the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas Medical School and did residency in Family Medicine at Bella Vista Hospital in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He has also worked at Dedicated Senior Medical Center in Largo in Florida and in Houston.
In his new role at DHR Health as a practitioner in family medicine, Dr. Garcia’s responsibilities encompass providing patient health assessments and vital health screenings and diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions. Other important aspects of his position include coordination of care with specialists, emergency response, patient education, and promotion of public health initiatives for the well-being of the community. As a supervisor for DHR Health’s residency program in Family Medicine, Dr. Garcia will oversee the postgraduate training program, which provides practical experience and specialized education to newly graduated medical doctors.

Dr. Garcia echoed the sentiment, saying, “I entered the field of medicine inspired by witnessing my father and grandfather helping patients. Returning to the RGV to serve my community is a profound privilege. I firmly believe that medicine is a collective endeavor, and I am eager to support medical residents in pursuing their dreams.”
