DHR Health, Valley Athletic Trainers Association to Host 2nd Annual Texas Emergency Sports Medicine Seminar

DHR Health, together with the Valley Athletic Trainers Association (VATA), is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Texas Emergency Sports Medicine Seminar (TEAMS) event that will be held on July 26th and 27th at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, located at 118 Paseo Del Prado. The goal of the event is to provide information and training on the latest guidelines and advancements in the sports medicine field to individuals who work with student athletes of all ages.

The first day of the event will be dedicated specifically to school athletic trainers, nurses, physicians, and emergency medical service personnel. The second day of the event will be open to youth sports coaches, youth league organizers, parents of student athletes, and the general public. Each session will offer insightful presentations and hands-on skills labs, with the session on July 27, offering CPR training and a rapid cooling lab.

The conference will be free to those who register, with a nominal fee charged for the CPR training that will be given on July 27. “Once again, we are thrilled to co-host this event with the Valley Athletic Trainers Association for the second year in a row. This seminar will continue to focus on the latest developments in sports medicine for the youth and student athletes in our community,” said Marissa Castañeda, DHR Health Senior Executive Vice President.

Several DHR Health physicians and special guest speakers from out of state will make presentations and offer attendees professional insights, hands-on training, and skills labs.

The TEAMS event will feature several authorities in the field of sports medicine, including:

• Dr. Mike Kordecki, DPT, SCS, ATC. Visiting from the state of Illinois, Dr. Kordecki has given a number of lectures on the rehabilitation of low back injuries in athletes.
• Dr. Rebecca Hirschhorn, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the School of Kinesiology at Louisiana State University.

The TEAMS event promises to be a valuable opportunity for professionals and community members involved in the care of student athletes.

“It will equip healthcare professionals and the community with crucial skills and insights in the care of student athletes just before the new school year but also fosters collaboration and networking within our community,” added Castañeda.

This is the second year DHR Health has partnered with VATA on this event, underscoring their commitment to advancing medical knowledge and empowering healthcare professionals and community members involved in the care of student athletes.
