High School and Community Outreach

The Department of High School and Community Outreach at DHR Health is committed to advancing healthcare careers by engaging with students, educators, and communities. In collaboration with Independent School Districts (ISDs) and Educational Service Centers, we offer a variety of programs designed to inspire students, empower educators, and promote healthcare education across all regions, including rural areas.

Our initiatives include immersive career conferences, hands-on internships, and mentorship programs that connect students with healthcare professionals. We also host health career fairs and professional development events to skill up educators in key areas such as mental health. Additionally, participants can earn valuable certifications, including Adult First Aid, CPR, AED, Pediatric First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Stop the Bleed, further preparing them for success in healthcare.

Career Conferences

Our career conferences provide students with immersive experiences that explore various healthcare professions. These events range from one-day workshops to multi-day programs lasting up to 10 days, offering students in-depth exposure to fields like nursing, radiology, physical therapy, and more. Through hands-on activities, guest speakers, and interactive sessions with healthcare professionals, students gain insights into potential career paths and learn about the academic requirements needed to pursue them.

Rural Outreach

To ensure students in underserved areas have access to healthcare career opportunities, we bring educational programs directly to rural communities. These events introduce students to a wide range of careers in healthcare and provide essential information on college pathways, scholarships, and certification programs. By extending our outreach efforts beyond urban centers, we strive to create equitable access to healthcare education and career development for all students.

Internships & Mentorships

Our internships and mentorships offer high school students valuable, hands-on learning experiences in real healthcare environments. These programs allow students to work alongside healthcare professionals, gaining practical skills and firsthand knowledge in fields such as nursing, therapy, and healthcare administration. Mentorship programs connect students with experienced professionals who provide guidance, career advice, and support as they explore future career options.

Professional Development for Educators

We support educators by providing conferences and workshops focused on skill-building in key areas, including mental health awareness and student well-being. These professional development opportunities equip teachers and administrators with the tools to create supportive learning environments and help students thrive both academically and emotionally. We provide participants in our programs with the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications that are essential for careers in healthcare. These certifications not only enhance students' and educators' skills but also help them stand out in the job market.
