Mario Lizcano, a key leader in the community, inducted for his outstanding contributions
Edinburg, TX–– Mario Lizcano, Administrator of Corporate Affairs at DHR Health, was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame March, 4, 2020 for his outstanding contributions in the community. To commemorate the induction, a summary of achievements were read during the unveiling of his name that was paved on the RGV Walk of Fame that took place at the Hidalgo Payne Arena.
The Walk of Fame is a celebration of life achievements and significant civil contributions of outstanding men and women in the Rio Grande Valley. The local landmark bears the names of many distinguished people, including other civic leaders and chamber of commerce members.
Around 200+ nominations are received each year from cities and chambers of commerce from the Rio Grande Valley. After reviewing the nominations, The City of Hidalgo, the Hidalgo’s BorderFest Committee and the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame Commission selected Lizcano for this honor. All 40 inductees were recognized during the week of BorderFest festivities. This year Hidalgo BorderFest is celebrating its 44th year. Each year the festival of family-friendly events such as parades, carnival rides, performances and other cultural and educational activities has paid homage to a different country, bringing a bit of its culture and history to the Rio Grande valley. This year BorderFest celebrates Japan.
Lizcano has been with DHR Health for a nearly 14 years his willingness to help the Rio Grande Valley community extends far greater than DHR Health. He balances his duties on providing awareness and information of service lines to the community with his presence and participations at local events.
Through his many civic contributions and volunteerism in more than 500 regional and statewide events, Lizcano, not only represents DHR Health, but also serves the community. Among his most notable accolades, Lizcano was named Fire Fighter of the Year twice by the City of Mission along with being recognized as Firefighter of the Year for the Rio Grande Valley. He has been recognized by DHR Health for exemplary volunteer community service hours and was named “Man of the Year” during the Governor’s Ball for his volunteer services provided to the community.
Along with his expansive community service, Lizcano currently holds many Board Memberships in the community. He is the founding Chairman of the Board for the Greater Pharr Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Board for the City of Edinburg Census Committee, Vice President of the Pharr Economic Development Corporation, Vice President of Public Affairs, Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of Civil Service in the City of Pharr, Vice Chairman of the P.S.J.A. I.S.D. C. A.T.E., Vice Chairman of the Hope Family Health Center, Commissioner of the Pharr Housing Authority, Ambassador, Advocacy Alliance Center of Texas (AACT), Community Board Member of United Blood Services (Vitalant), Board Member of the Pharr Golf Advisory Committee, Board Member of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Athletic Council, Board Member to the Hidalgo County Health Services, Board Member of Easter Seals Society, Board Member of Guns and Hoses Advisory, Advisory Board Member of La Joya ISD Health Careers High School along with over 20 other past Board memberships.
Lizcano grew up in Pharr, Texas and graduated from PSJA High School in 1987. He attended the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas and the University of Texas San Antonio and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree with a major in Marketing and a minor in Biology/Chemistry.
He has one daughter, Marlee Rennae.
